School Facility Reopening Plans
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alameda County Public Health Department ordered all schools in Alameda County, including Golden Oak Montessori, to close our campus on March 16, 2020 which resulted in a transition to a Distance Learning format.
Our school is now ready to reopen our physical campus to students using a slow, phased process which carefully follows the guidelines outlined by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Alameda County Department of Public Health (ACDPH), and Alameda County Office of Education.
As indicated in state guidance, the school community (parents/guardians and staff members) were asked to complete a survey released in mid-January 2021 to gather feedback on comfort level returning to campus. The response rates were high with 175 individual parent responses and 80+% of staff responding, and the results directly informed the school’s decision making and plans.
Golden Oak Montessori’s Path to Reopening Planning Committee, which includes a wide cross-section of school staff, developed a detailed Reopening Plan which Head of School, Jen Heeter, presented at an all staff meeting (February 3) with time for questions and feedback. The plan was next presented at the Golden Oak Montessori Board of Directors Meeting (February 11) with time for questions and feedback. The reopening plan was emailed to families (February 13) and included in the school's weekly newsletter (February 14). The format of the presentation was both the written plan and recorded presentation providing additional context for families to further understand the development and details of the plan. Golden Oak Montessori hosted a Reopening the Campus Informational Meeting (March 1) for families to hear a more detailed version of the Reopening the Campus presentation “live” with time for questions. Approximately 50 families attended. A recording of that presentation was then included in the weekly newsletter (March 7) along with written responses to all the questions posed by parents during the meeting so all parents could have the opportunity to see the answers.
Families who choose to sign their students up for either the by invitation Learning Hubs for students with Special Education Services or other specific needs, or the optional on campus afternoons, received further detailed information about participation prior to their student student's first day on campus. Families can also follow along on our school's progress toward our preparations with our School Campus Re-Opening Readiness Dashboard.
In addition, the following documents, prepared in accordance with state requirements, are available for review and posted well in advance of our planned reopening of the campus for in person instruction.
