Friends of Golden Oak
Donation Campaign 2009-10
Dear GO families and friends,
Your child’s education means everything to you. It is the key to their bright and successful future. This is why golden Oak is offering a child-centered education based on the Montessori Method. We want to build a vibrant education community with committed families as the backbone. To that end, we are not just envisioning a great start for Golden Oak, but the best start possible!
First we want to give you a quick update on our facilities renovation, which is well underway. A tremendous amount of work has already been accomplished in order to fix and improve the school.
-
All classrooms, as well as the office, have been refinished and painted (floor to ceiling).
-
Windows were washed, classroom sinks scrubbed clean, cabinets painted and cleaned.
-
The field area has been extended and completely fenced.
-
The giant weeds have been removed from the hill sides and field areas.
-
Garden boxes were installed and vegetables planted in healthy organic soil.
-
Wood chips laid and outdoor classroom created.
-
Installed new linoleum tiles, waxed floors, laid carpet tiles in the classrooms.
-
Purchased and built shelving for Montessori materials.
And the following tasks are in progress:
-
Repairing and replacing driveway and parking lot asphalt.
-
Fixing gymnasium roof.
Thank you to the many families and friends who volunteered their time and energy to clean the classrooms, work on the garden, level the field and haul in the numerous donated items. It already has made a huge difference. See pictures of our progress on the Golden Oak web site.
This is just the beginning. We know that many of the best public schools depend on annual contributions from parents and donors to supplement their budgets. This is why we would like to ask for your help with this donation campaign to continue to enhance the school.
Here are some of the projects that we would like to accomplish and would need your support:
-
Outdoor area: setup sailcloth shade and benches for the outdoor classrooms, create an obstacle course, and expand the irrigation system to the new play area.
-
Sport area: install a basketball hoop and tether ball, four square, purchase sports equipment.
-
Garden: plant flowers, trees for an orchard and purchase various garden supplies.
-
Inside classrooms: acquire books for the library, microscopes, art supplies, computer lab.
-
Office: purchase a copy machine and laminating machine.
-
Gym: build a stage for performances.
-
Emergency preparedness: Purchase emergency supplies and backpacks.
Your donation is tax deductible. You are contributing to a great cause– the best education for your children! As a public school founded and governed by parents, GO depends on our enthusiastic family of parents and friends to support the school. Also remember to ask your employer if they offer matching programs that may enhance your personal donation. Invest in GO!
Last thing, this dedicated group of parents likes challenges and we have just been given a really big one! We have been offered a $50,000 anonymous pledge to help create the “Golden Oak Founders Fund” for our school! But this pledge comes with a catch: we have to raise $100,000 from families, friends, foundations and corporate donors before March 2010. Your donation, no matter the amount, contributes toward matching this challenge. If you give $100 to GO, then an additional $50 will be given to the school. So to get the maximum of $50,000 from this challenge donation, we need to raise twice that amount by early next year. We are talking to family members, friends and employers about this because anyone can give – but it’s up to you to help us expand our network and find supporters.
Any donation amount, even small, will be gladly accepted. We would like everybody’s participation with whatever amount they can afford. With your help, we know we can do it.
Let’s make it happen! GO! GO! GO!
Yours truly,
The GO Fundraising Committee.
